Should you give chocolates / sweets to your kids?
By : Admin Dec 20,2022We all know that chocolates, candies, jellies stick to the teeth thereby causing cavities. Does that mean our kids should not eat chocolates at all!
You can give chocolates or sweets to your kids provided you follow the following rules:
- Give chocolates before meals so that all the stickiness gets washed off by chewing the food.
- It is absolutely necessary to brush the teeth after having chocolates. (There is no excuse for this!)
- Decide for a day (or may be two days) in the week when your child can have chocolates. No chocolates to be eaten on any other day. Kids can collect all the chocolates they get so that they can eat them on the decided day(may be Sunday or so). Now here is the trick: Give all the chocolates to be eaten AT ONCE. Let him/her eat to his/her heart’s content. Let them enjoy this to the fullest. But remember ALL AT ONCE! The goal is to
a).Decrease the frequency of exposure of the teeth to sticky chocolates. Instead of the teeth being exposed to chocolates multiple times, it is better they are exposed only once. Again DO NOT FORGET brushing the teeth after eating all the chocolates.
b).The rule says always brush teeth after eating chocolates. Is this possible if your kid eats chocolates multiple times in a day? Would he/ she brush her teeth that many times? Absolutely no! That is why it is advised to eat all chocolates at once rather than multiple times and brush teeth thereafter.
So Good oral hygiene and proper timing can help you preserve your child’s teeth than just banning chocolates.😃
